1990 Tranny filter

Hello everyone , I have been planning on a tranny service , but when looking up parts it shows 2 filters , "old style" & "new style" , I was curious if this was a change from GM or an updated filter ? I can't seem to find an answer , any input would be appreciated . Thanks in advance   ,  Bill

"Old" refers to the body of the filter itself, without any support. "New" has a stainless bottom, with a support tab, that rests on the pan, to hold the filter in place- since there is no actual "mounting point" to hold the filter to the unit. I'm surprised the old is still being offered?
