Info about locating Dad's cars

Hello everyone. I am trying to locate 3 of my Dad's old cars (57 Chevy pickup, 1966 Lemans, 1969 GTO)and all I have are the Texas license plate numbers from 1968/69. I am not interested in doing it illegally so I am wondering if there are ways to do this legitimately? My Dad died last month and I now have a stronger than ever urge to find and hopefully buy back at least one of his classic cars.

The easiest legal way would be to contact the insurance agent or company who insured the cars when your father owned them. They would have the vehicle information, including serial numbers. With the serial numbers, you could then actually identify one if you found it.

 

After you have the serial numbers, post a wanted ad here, possibly also in Hemmings Motor News seeking information about those specific cars. Do a Google search for those types of cars for sale, and ask if they are the numbers you are looking for. A Google search of each of the serial numbers might even locate one advertised for sale with the serial number listed if you were really lucky.

 

Also, any clubs for those cars might have the cars listed in a club database, but you have to have the serial numbers before that will help you find one.

Rocketman, what was the approximate last year

that your father owned those vehicles?  If all you

know is the late 1960's into the mid-1970's, it is

quite likely that the cars are no longer around--

that they were typical daily drivers that fell into

disuse and were junked.  The large majority of cars

from any given time period are lost that way.

 

But, if you know the cars survived well past 1968-69

and into the modern era (say the 1990's) as collector cars,

they would have been preserved, and there's a very

large chance  they are still around.

   The last known for sure evidence of registration I have is as follows:

 

1969 GTO - Registered in Texas in 1969 (Texas LP# KFF-635)

1966 Pontiac Lemans - Registered in Texas in 1968/69 (Texas LP# JVD-888)

1957 Chevy Pickup - Registered in Texas in 1970. From 71 thru 75 in Mississippi (Texas LP# 4B-7320)

 

Considering 2 of these vehicles Dad bought new and the truck was restored in the early 70's, I am hoping they would still be around. Of course I don't what the condition of them is as long as I know they are still around and/or I could buy any one or all of them back.
