HPOF Question

Recommended Posts

Harold,

Welcome to the AACA Discussion Forum. I have edited the title of your question and moved it to the Judging Forum. I am sure you will be an extensive answer here from an experienced HPOF Team Member. HPOF Cars are evaluated by HPOF Team Members rather than point judged like most traditional AACA Classes. Briefly, Normal maintenance items, such as tires, belts, hoses, etc. will not cause you any problems in HPOF.

thanks Matthew, I am showing my 58 Edsel Roundup tomorrow in Auburn. It was awarded the HPOF award last fall at Hershey. To the best of my knowledge the tires, master cylinder and fuel pump are the only things not from the factory. Now competing for original I was curious if those items were cause for deduction. I even kept the original tires when we pealed them off just so I would have them. Thanks for your reply and help getting me to the right place with my question.

The items you mentioned are all considered maintenance items and can be replace without deduction as long as they are replaced with original style components.  For example, the tires should be correct size bias ply tires.  The master cylinder and fuel pump should be the same as the original, not an after market part that fits, but does not appear the same.  The same for hoses and clamps, they can be of modern manufacture, but must be the same style as original.

Hope this helps.

Hi John, there are a lot of great stories in the automobiles history but imagine a new model loosing 350 million dollars of 1957 money. Yet the car was no better or worse than any other car from the time. My wife and I have owned so many collector cars over the years but none have regenerated the spark and love of cars that our Edsel's have. Every time we take one for a drive, go to a car show or even a parade people want to talk to you about that odd looking car. Last November we escorted the parade marshal and his wife in our Christmas parade with our 58 Edsel Pacer convertible. We were almost embarrassed as the car got more attention than the wonderful couple we were driving. If your ever in Bucyrus, stop I would love to show you the Edsel collection which is currently at 12 with a lot of memorabilia. We will be back at Hershey this fall too. Take care.

Hank
