Guest Montez Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Does anyone know how to remove the front bucket seats in a 1989 buick riviera
MCHinson Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 It has been a while since I owned a 1989 Riviera, but I think they are mounted like the seats in my 1989 Park Avenue. I think you will find four plastic covers on each corner of the seat frame. They should slide off (slide the front ones towards the front of the car and the rear ones towards the rear of the car). When they are off, you should see the seat mounting studs. After removing the nuts from the seat mounting studs, you can lift the seat up and unplug the electrical harness. You can then remove the seat from the car.
Digger914 Posted April 29, 2017 Posted April 29, 2017 Fixed a lot of those Buick seat rails and after it's unbolted from the floor, getting the driver seat out of a 2 door Riv is a piece of cake compared to the Park. Getting the seat free from the floor, coming in through the back door is the advantage of the working on a Park. If the seat won't move under its own power and it's blocking access to the rear bolts, a flex head ratcheting box end combo will get the job done eventually. If your seat is stone cold dead, can't move under its own power and sitting in the worst possible position, cutting the rear lift pivot rivets will save you a couple hours of contorted wrenching on a Riv. The cheapest shoulder bolts will replace the rivets, but torqueing the bolt tight is not an option so you will need to invest in a couple of self locking nuts if you cut the rivets.
padgett Posted April 30, 2017 Posted April 30, 2017 Just be glad it's not a Reatta with a ded seat (both seats are power), used to have a small jump box that was great for power seats.
