Lowering a 65 riv - coil springs

Recommended Posts

Hi All

Has anyone lowered their 65 with Jamco coils springs 2" or 3"?

If so can you advise amount of road clearance you have to frame/exhaust - whatever is nearer the ground?

All the best

Kev

Mine is lowered a bit over 3", but I cut my coils. Its fine on everything except driveways with a harsh curb, it'll drag the exhaust every now and then. But mine has 2 1/2" custom exhaust, so stock might not be so bad.

I did a two inch drop with coil spring specialties springs.  With stock exhaust I had about 3 3/4 inches of clearance but my exhaust could be tweaked a bit and could have 4 inches of clearance.   I only scraped on high speed bumps

If you look at the post I did On May 19, 2017.  It is titled 1963 Riviera lowered springs.   I explain the experience I had with the custom springs I had made that dropped the car 3" all way around.

Depending on how your exhaust is currently done, you will most likely have to tuck it up.  There are several posts dealing with that.  I did it that way and it is perfect.

Mine is lowered only 1 inch, but already I can't get my jack to clear the exhaust. No scraping though.

Mine on 3" inch drop spring from Jamco. I drag bottom on speed bumps and humped parking lot entrances. Drive over them at an angle to minimize the carnage. No issue on the road. Rides fine. I had the exhaust move as far off the ground as possible for clearance. Tail pipes are simple turn downs that are 1/2" below the bumper. I didn't care to see them at all anyway. Jamco took along time to send the product. And the weren't the best with customer service. Got a discount being a HAMB alliance member. I don't know if that is still available. I don't look at the HAMB anymore. Jamco sources them from Coil Spring Specialties (but they were cheaper trough Jamco ??). Good luck.

Your Riv is looking better than ever, bb1970. Those the same wires that you found 'previously owned'? So fine!

I used Jamco 2" drops.  Have 18's and 20's.  Did have exahust drag but have had it raised and haven't had any issues.

I should add that my mufflers are at the very back of the car.....the exhaust tips are actually welded right to them.  If they were underneath I may have a whole different set of issues.  You can kind of see them in these pics.
