Ralph55
Hi all, I just noticed that a tiny something (let's call it a thingy - because I'm from Germany and can't name those special automotive parts very precisely :-) got lost somehow... The thingy is a metal cover which pulls down the flipper rail when closing the door. If you know where I could get a replacement thingy me and my 55 Buick would be eternally grateful... Kind Regards Ralph Edited April 13, 2017 by Ralph55 (see edit history)
Bhigdog
In German it's called Derthingydatclosensdertopufderwindergap..........................Bob

old-tank
You circled the striker of the 'side roof rail mechanical sealing strip'. (I want some of what Bob is drinking) A Body Manual will help with identification and installation. Send a PM if you need one.

buick5563
Seems like maybe the spring is broken (maybe). Ralph, I don't think that spring is available... even in Trumpistan Edited April 13, 2017 by buick5563 (see edit history)
buick5563
By the way. They ARE generally referred to as flippers. I have two NOS in boxes for the smaller (Century and Special). Somebody's gonna have to cough up serious dough for those, though.
Bhigdog
Parts aren't available but they are repairable with parts from a "parts flipper". The springs are riveted on. I had to make repair rivets from stainless steel. A tedious job but still doable.............Bob
Caballero2
Found them on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1954-1956-Buick-2-Door-Hardtop-Flipper-Flapper-Spring-Set-Show-Quality-/262900307687?hash=item3d361456e7:g:ca8AAOSwB4NWyOPd&vxp=mtr Dan
Caballero2
While trying to be funny... How about that is a Flipperstriker, not to be confused with Whippersnapper. Even though being available only in Trumpistan, one the operatives in this forum would note it is made from unobtainium. Thus, it would be cost prohibitive. pont35cpe
There is quite a bit of "flipper" items listed for `55-`57 Chevys in ebay. Should be the same as Buick?

Fr. Buick
I believe the springs from a Chevy (55-57) will work on the big Buicks. Otherwise, you need to buy a crummy one with usable pieces you need...
NTX5467
I'd suspect the springs are the same for hardtop Chevys and other similar GM vehicles which used that "variable position upper seal strip". There are LOTS of vendors which sell Tri-Five Chevy parts between the USA borders (north and south), most of which have an online presence. The eBay sellers have to be getting them somewhere! But as long as they work, look for the best price. NTX5467
