1949 Buick Super Wagon - Front Bench Seat Removal

Hi Everyone -

I have been working on a 1949 Buick Super Wagon Series 50.   One of the things I am about to work on is install new carpeting in the car.  I will be doing both front and rear carpets.

I need to remove the front seat to do a proper install.  The Wagon has a bench seat in front - one that slides back and forth.  I have removed the base of the seat, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to remove the entire seat assembly.  I have a shop manual and have reviewed it cover to cover and I could not find any mention of how to remove the seats.

Has anyone had any experience with this kind of project?  Any input or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

This looks similar to my '41 Roadmaster. Do those bolt heads bolt to the adjuster, then the adjuster bolts into the floor. In my limited experience, some of the bolts are really hard to get to. There was a body manual available for most years, which gives a lot more detail in how do various tasks relating to seats, windows, etc.

I believe if the "fenders" around the end of the seat are removed, the mounting bolts will be visible.

Ben - Thanks for the response.  I thought about those sides / fenders as well, but I can't figure out how to remove those either.  Some of the bolts are already visible as you can see, however they are near enough impossible to get to.

Hi Keith - Which specific bolt heads are you referring to?  Some bolt to the adjuster, some bolt to the seat back (the ones really close to the side on that curved bar).  I'll try to take more pictures as the actual mounting bolts are kind of buried.  It would be a pain to first un-bolt the adjuster and then try to unbolt the seat.  Also, that won't actually give you more access to the mounting bolts.

Hi Mark - Thanks for the information.  I found a phone number for Mike and tried reaching out to him.  Hopefully, he will get back to me.  I saw some of his posts and it certainly seems the Woodie's are a passion for him.
