34studepres
I'm looking at buying a '34 Airflow Coupe. Being a 6 cylinder, how fast does it go without pushing too hard? Edited April 3, 2017 by 34studepres (see edit history)
keiser31
The DeSoto Airflow was never a four cylinder.
34studepres
My mistake, it's 6 cylinders. How fast do you think she'll go?
keiser31
Well, they were rated at 100 hp and I believe they could do 50 mph comfortably. I have never had one, so maybe an owner can chime in. It could probably do 70 if you pushed it, but I wouldn't.
zeke01
I owned a 1935 DeSoto Airflow several years ago. Mine was equipped with a factory overdrive and would cruise comfortably at 60-65 mph. They are very comfortable tour cars. Zeke
34studepres
Thanks Zeke. I don't believe this one has overdrive though.

Alfa
I have a 35 Desoto Airflow. It has the automatic overdrive that engages at 40mph plus. With overdrive, it will drive at 60mph quite happily, more if you are willing to push it. I suspect top speed would be around 80mph, but I have never tried to go above about 65-70 out of defference for the 80 year old engine. Without overdrive, I should think 50 mph would be a comfortable cruise with max speed around 60mph. They are quite fast for a mid-thirties car. Adam.. 34studepres
Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. Is yours a 2 door?
PFindlay
Agreed, I have a 35 Airflow DeSoto Sedan. Over 50 mph (as indicated on the speedo) is getting too fast for my liking. Peter
Alfa
My car is a 4 door sedan. Here is a picture of it. Not taken by me, I found the pic on this forum! The picture was taken on a dull day, The car is actually green.

Alfa
Sadly no. I am in the UK and I think there are literally just a couple of other Airflows, of any description, in the country. Adam..
