Fr. Buick
I'm trying to find a replacement for the insulation inserted betweent the two pieces of the trunk lid - a tar-impregnated felt with a bit of a waffle-texture to it.
I know the tri-year Chevy parts houses sell this stuff pre-cut per application, but does anyone know of where I can but it by the yard?
Grateful for any leads...
Fr. palbuick
I recently purchased this material for my 40 Buick. Same type of a tar paper with the waffel type pattern, a bit thinner than original. Purchased from CARS, INc. the sheet size is about 24 X 36. You will probably need two sheets, cost was about $16. per.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
capgage
Jim-
How did you install this insulation? Did you cut it into pieces slightly larger than, but the same shape as, the exposed area and then work it in? Referencing my 58, it seems to me this material was originally installed before the two pieces of the decklid were assembled and the edges "crimpled" around the perimeter.
Did you actually disassemble the decklid?
Mark
palbuick
Mark
You have been in my garage, and were peeking.
I cut the cross brace out, made a pattern on clear plastic of old tar paper. Then transfered on to the tar paper. I havent finished yet, need some work done on the lid before putting it back together. I used a heat gun to soften old material and scraped it clean. I even found original steel stamp from steel mfg.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
