Would the owner of this car be interested in some free 63 parts for pick up in the Richmond, VA area? They are from a Skylark, but include wheels, radiator, and other things that would probably work for a Special too. PM me and I will get you the contact info from the email I received.
MrEarl
Thought I'd share some more detailed pictures of the 53 Super that was used as the company car for Tugalo Gas and use to travel to all their stations. The car had been converted to propane gas and as far as I could tell all the unit is still there. I want to try and turn the engine at some point as it all complete.
MrEarl
The '53 also has the stainless window shades. Found in the back seat were several bottles, some still full of different liquor. I guess this was the chaser

avgwarhawk
This individual was serious about his/her Canadian Mist. Probably a DUI candidate. What is the bottle with the rabbit? Cognac? Aside from that, is this Buick a one of a kind and of any historical significance?

Re "probably a DUI candidate" yea very likely, and was put away for some time. I'd have to be put away to leave that much good liquor behind. Though I was never a fan of CM. No real "historical" significance Chris, just that the conversion to propane was probably pretty rare back in the 50's, when this car was on the road. The owner had a couple more later model cars, one a Cadillac that had been converted to propane. And all their company cars and trucks. I'm wondering if there might be somebody interested in clean air/alternative fuel enough to want to go to the effort of restoring this propane unit. I'm betting it would be a one off on a show-field.

Well, that is what I'm wondering. Was this a very uncommon thing in the 50's? I have not seen nor heard of using propane in the era. Certainly would be a one off anywhere! NC-car-guy
I had a 51 International Harvester that had the propane conversion. Supposedly also belonged to a gas company.
avgwarhawk
Apparently the gas companies had a fix for free tank fulls of propane!! So then I would say this systems was not widely used. Certainly not recognized by the big three. Hmmmmm...
avgwarhawk
1950s: This decade ushered in the expansion of propane use in both homes and businesses. Approximately 7.5 million propane installations took place on farms and in suburbs across the country. In 1950, one thousand propane-fueled buses were ordered by the Chicago Transit Authority. In 1958, national sales extended to 7 billion gallons annually. http://stonekor.com/passion-propane-equipment/
