Guest Mototman
Someone asked if we could identify this car from a family photo - they thought it might be a Thomas but none of the Thomas photos I've looked up from this era look right. The focus isn't perfect, but I did enhance contrast a bit. There appears to be diagonal text on the radiator but it is obscured by the headlight with only the "top" character visible but not too clear... plenty of distinctive characteristics... flat hood with round shoulders with matching radiator shell, large louvers on hood sides, distinctive front fenders, flat-top rear fenders, 12-spoke wheels, rhd, interesting handle(?) at top-front corner of front passenger seat, oval handle for rear door. Photo believed to be taken in US but location is not known. Can't quite make out logo on top-front of radiator shell. BIG radiator... (Hmm first attempt to add image looked OK while creating message, but photo disappeared from posted msg. Will try again... Guest Mototman
I think I may have found a match... looks like a 1907 Stevens-Duryea Phaeton... or within a couple of years of 1907 anyway. Duryea has no script across the radiator in this era that I've seen so not sure about that particular detail... also, photos I've seen of the Duryea show wire spoke wheels rather than wood spoke, but that could have been optional (presumably). Can anybody confirm this match?
Dave Mellor NJ
This is said to be a Stevens Duryea S 50 HP from The Old Motor I don't know what year but it seems to agree with you. Anyway, welcome to the forums, nice to have you. Especially a person with knowledge of early iron.
