Gary W
I showed these photos in my ongoing restoration thread (1937 Buick Model 48 Restoration has begun...) but i thought this was really cool to uncover. While pressure washing the grease and gunk off the frame, I exposed what I think is the Date of Manufacture (DOM). I always love to learn more of the history, and I was happy to come across this series of numbers. The numbers: VIN: 3105718 Ithe tag riveted to the side rail) Engine: # 4 3279307 Body # 6889 DOM: February 16, 1937 Then there is another code after that: GB - 2 N ( or is it G8 - 2 N)
dracenroc
Nice Pic! Nice resto so far! Acc my info your '37-48 was built in March 37 at the Flint factory. Frame DOM in February should fit! Cannot say what the other code means. Could it be 68-3 N?
Brian_Heil
First, I have very much enjoyed your well documented project and excellent pictures. Thank for the effort and sharing. Makes you wonder if this is a frame DOM or vehicle DOM? My guess is frame DOM and VINs went in some sort of daily log as they came off the end of the line. The frame DOM would help the frame department find frames in the yard or in process to find an issue discovered or know what parts were ok to go to the line. The actual vehicle schedule was a giant puzzle of figuring out what shortages there were Vs. build requests and keeping the line running at all cost. Brian_Heil
68-3 N Could be an engineering design change level or more likely 68th part on the 3rd shift design level N?
