jscheib Posted February 15, 2017 Share Posted February 15, 2017 The thread on the fuel pump replacement got me thinking about my problem. The day after returning from Allentown, I sprung a fuel line leak, just after forward in the long line connector at the fuel pump. I am told the coupe and convertible are different, and Marck Barker was able to get me a used one rather quickly as the replacement line is no longer available new. It seems an internal caused damage. My question is does it seem an ethanol created problem, or some excess pressure, or simply a faulty line as there was no evidence of external chafing. The car seemed to run fine with the leak only minor while running but started to create a puddle by the rear of the drivers door when parked. I have two questions. Any one else have this problem? While a tag says "Do not repair", repairs could be done, as few replacements are available and basically if one wanted to replace the line, is there a source for the unique fittings. I have yet to take the replaced line to a fuel/brake line specialist to see what they can do with the existing fittings. Any comments? Barney Eaton Posted February 16, 2017 Share Posted February 16, 2017 John, I think you ask a question without an answer All of us are running the same basic fuel (mandated by law) and we are not seeing wholesale failures..... we know the steel lines may rust but what is the expected life of the newer plastic lines? Someone else on another forum ask the same basic question.....I looked on Ebay and there are people selling plastic fuel line repair kits, but do you only want to "repair" a plastic line if you suspect it might fail in another place? Would it be prudent to replace the plastic with steel?....or maybe there is a newer engineered plastic that has longer life. Guess it all depends on how long you plan on keeping the vehicle.....also only one line has the high pressure, the other two are the return line and the vapor line, if they crack or fail you may never see a leak. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
