Guest
My bet is you are looking at 231 heads not 225. I have used the 231 heads on 225 they work ok. As you said you must use 231 lifters, pushrods, and rockers. I drill and plug the oil passage in the block so as not to subject the head gasket to oil presure. Why not use 225 heads and save the cost of lifters pushrods and rockers? I use 231 heads with Rhoads lifters because they bleed faster than solid pushrod setups. The 231 heads may have different chamber size. 225 used steel head gaskets and most 231 used the thicker composite ones. Good luck JIM
Guest
I am in the process of trying to get my houseboat going again. It has a Buick 225 V6 in it. The heads are trashed (ie. cracked, burnt, rusted, and warped) The machine shop has a set of automotive type 225 heads. The Difference is in the oiling. My heads use solid push rods, but the rocker arm assembly mounts have oil holes coming up into the rockers. The replacements I'm going to use get oil trough the rocker arms themselves. I know I'm going to have to replace the lifters and push rods. Is there anything else I need to take into account, and will this work? Has anyone ever actually done this?
