Tire Tread Cover

Recommended Posts

That cover was made by a company named Long. It is typical of 29 & 30, sometimes seen in 31 and early 32. Usually they fit 19 & 18 inch, seventeen wasn't common till 1933. It may be a more modern version if it is actually for a 17 inch tire, as they were a popular manufactured accessory in the late fifties and early sixties. I may have one kicking around the shop, but often there are slight differences in them, mostly in the crown and with. I'll look tomorrow to see if we still have toe odd ball one kicking around.

Curti,

Twenty five years ago when I completed the restoration of my 1931 Studebaker President 80R convertible coupe aka Four Seasons Roadster. During the process I restored the tire covers (chrome plated) that were with the car when I bought it. I didn't use them because they were too narrow for the Lucas 650x 19 tire tread. They have been stored in the basement since. If you might have an interest in them let me know and I will dig them out.-Bill
