In the early 1900s there were a heck of a lot of makes with names that started with "American" or simply had "American" as the full name.

 

This photo looks like it is of the "Underslung" model from the "American" car company of Indianapolis, Indiana (1906-1914). I'd guess about a 1913 or so model.

Definitely an American Underslung , probably the top of the line traveler . I would say either a 1912 or13. 1914 had electric lights. The AACA magazine has published very good articles about these cars written by the late Walter Sealy. Circa 1980 ,AACA library should be able to provide copy's.

Oh yeah ! Wow indeed ! Oh yeah , I'd take it all right ! And drive it ever farther. Tomcatting about , cruising after some semi-loony octogenarian granddaughter of the pictured enclosed lassie. You bet your ears I would ! Thanks much for posting that one !  - Carl
