WTB: 63 Riviera

Hey

This is hard to describe without alienating sellers. So, these are my wants in a car.

I like 63s for their interiors, 64s not so much because of the interior controls, and 65s for their exterior styling.

Ideal car would be a abortion 63 with a 65 front. Or a 64-65 with a 63 interior controls.

Not saying I would do this to  a car I bought. Sacrilege I know to some.

First and foremost, I am looking for a decent driver, is a must. It must be drivable. So everything needs to work reliably.

My dream continues,

Looking for one with a rebuilt engine, and a 200r4 trans would be nice as well.

Upgraded brakes are a nice touch.

As I am in California, I am used to no rust cars, and that seems the way I want to go.

Not interested in a project at this time, in the sense that it does not drive.

Upholstery could need redoing.

Or, paint could need help.

Or it could be pristine.

Delux interior is nice as is AC, working or not. Lowered is OK.

Perhaps you have a lead that I would be interested in checking out.

I am willing to travel.

Either way let me know what you have. Much appreciated and,

Thanks

Pictures help a great deal. Please PM for my email if you can not post in a reply.

Let me add that I am NOT looking for recommendations on what model or year to buy, or why one is better than the other.

I have looked at the ROA for sales.

If you're not familiar with those controls over the radio on the 63, the die cast arms attaching the switch knob to the controls under the hood have a tendency to break.  They're not reproduced and good ones (that haven't broken yet but probably will soon) are very difficult to find and just as difficult to replace.  Except for the temperature control valve on the '64, all of those cables have been replaced with vacuum hoses.  Another consideration you might make is that the '63 is the last year for the Dynaflow transmission.  You'll be lucky to find someone who can work on it. In '64, Buick went to the GM Turbo Hydramatic 400  (TH400 that Buick termed the ST400)  A much more efficient transmission and almost any shop can work on it.

If you're seriously set on a '63, I'd suggest looking a 1) The classifieds on the Riviera Owners Website - link in my signature.  and 2) the classified ads in the Riview, the ROA's bi-monthly magazine.  Lots of well preserved cars being sold by Riviera enthusiasts, not some dealership.
