First, pay the money and get a real factory shop manual.  These are available on ebay and elsewhere. 1965-ford-comet-falcon-fairlane-mustang-

Second, why do you think it is a ground problem?  The ground is the chassis.  There is a big cable from the engine block to the negative terminal of the battery.  It isn't complex. Have you tried basic troubleshooting? Have you jumpered across the large terminals of the starter solenoid to see if the starter spins? Have you jumpered directly to the starter to see if it spins? Have you verified that the neutral safety switch is properly adjusted? These are all far more common failure modes than a ground issue.

What Joe said.  Do the headlights work?  If they do, you don't have a ground problem.  With the parking brake applied and your foot on the brake pedal, hold the key in the start position and move the shift lever from neutral towards drive and reverse.  If the starter kicks in, the switch needs adjustment/rplacement.

Better yet, have the rear wheels off the ground.

In those years of Ford, I remember needing to grab the gear shift lever if it was on the column and pull it counter clockwise while trying to start the car with the key.  Kind of a known problem from the Ford persons that I knew.  Probably a misadjusted park/neutral switch.

Agree with the suggestion above.  Check the obvious with a battery load test and the connections to the battery and cables.

Agree with Larry.  I worked for Ford during that time and misadjusted neutral switches was a common problem.  On floor shift cars like the Mustang, the switch is on the side of the transmission and subject to weather as well.  On column shift cars it is inside the car at the bottom of the steering column.  Replacement switches came with a little plastic pin in them holding them in the park position.  Remember to take the pin out after installing the switch, otherwise it will break when the shift lever is moved.  Ask me how I know. :(
