Constellation
56 Packard,Actually, good used, McPhereson Strut Gromets work fine. However, you can get new ones from most of the HELP displays in any of the major Parts Stores. I know becuase I did the same thing last Summer. One thing that does aid in taking it apart, Remove the Left front tire. Next, Take the Cotter Pin out of the Castle Nut at the end of the Ram and heat up the Nut good with a torch. (have a fire extinguisher ready)Use a 6 point socket, the nut should come right off. When reassembling with the new Gromets, clean the Threads good with a wire brush and use some Never Sieze. Always use a new Brass Cotter Pin Too.Bob

Guest Kevin AZ
A note about Needle Bearings and Roller bearings. I just broke down the right-front spindle (knocked out the king pin) on the '55 400 and found the following numbers.Roller Bearing (original) - - <Hoover Ball & Bearing Company 3003> Kanter's replacement for this is <Trayer Products Inc. BE-14>Needle Bearing (original) - - <Torrington NB-17> Kanter replaces this with brass bushings.
Guest imported_PackardV8
They are probably NOT brass but rather Oilite bushings. The reason the vendors do not offer the roller (or needle) is probably due to expense. Bushings are MUCH cheaper. OIlite is more expensive than 'brass' bushings. NEITHER is nearly as expensive as 'anitfriction' type beareings tho. If Packard used the anitfriction type in production (HEY! they wanted to cut corners too but didnt) then thats what they SHOULD be replaced with. I will also assume that the 'brass' bushings are used at the TOP and NOT the bottom???

Guest Randy Berger
I thought I had posted SMS auto fabrics as the supplier of choice a good while back. After several PAC members, who owned V8s, told me the material couldn't be found I mailed SMS and they sent me a sample of my fabric. They also matched my leather, including the grain when I sent them a sample of that. They also had the hair-cell vinyl in the proper color that is used on the lower door panels. They were quick, precise and a pleasure to deal with. They had an ad in Hemmings for the Pontiac "star" cloth from the fifties that caught my eye. I reasoned if they had that, then they might have the Packard material.By the way, if you want the book, it is a great Packard collectible and authenticates colors and combinations. SMS is no substitute for that.YFAM, Randy Berger

Guest Albert
FYI Rear wheel cylinders for the 51-56 Packards (not 54-56 Clippers) are the same part # as an 1987 Ford Bronco rear F78974 (L) & F78975 ® which should make finding them a lot easier.
