I don't know that I've ever seen someone put a 350 in a Riv. Nice upper rad hose.

I did find one here in NC around a year ago on Craigslist, can't remember if it was a '63 or 4, but, it looked pretty rough to say the least, so I didn't bother posting it.

Yeah and leather seats.

Well you would want to see a the chrome air cleaner top, GS badging in correct places, but perhaps the most telling would be the PY code on the left side of differential tube on bottom. Or if somehow you could determine the robust handling components. Check to see if it has the quick steering ratio, so check the lock to lock. Only GS could add that option.

It looks in good condition, however pictures are lacking and not close up. None of engine. Black is a rare color so could be repainted. Got to put this one to the test!

Here is an example of the Posi code PY (potential GS) and the non-posi PJ (non-GS). And of course the quick check is if it has the metal tag on the differential. The transmissions are the same GS vs. non-GS, so it will be a BT tag trans either way. No special engine stamp, so really if it has the chrome air cleaner top and posi, that would be pretty good (of course paperwork would be awesome to have).

This beauty is looking for a new home! It's a very clean well maintained true survivor that is ready to hit the road and be shown off at the first cruise of the season! Mostly original except for paint, 455 engine with 4 barrel carburetor. Everything works as it should including the A/C for the upcoming hot summer days! This vehicle is a real head turner and pictures do it NO justice! I'm willing to negotiate on price but please no low balls, trades or tire kickers.thanks for looking.

Looks to be in real nice condition. $18k negotiable. Appears to be standard interior not often seen plus shorty console. And it has fender mounted light monitors. Too bad no engine pics. Not crazy on color but if I lived in FL it wouldn't be bad. Likely taken care of as rubber bumper strips look nice

NICE!

And here is her sister, left behind in Florida. Same ride without the consolette.

Called the owner - nice guy. Rims do not seem original? Just had the front seats done very well IMO:

I don't have room for another car :( I would trade for a BT if the right one came along.

I can check it out if someone is interested.

Here's a low production model.  1979 Riviera S-type.  This one does not have the S-type wheel covers and it has the Turbo V6 DELETE option ($110 credit). Rather it has the 350 V8.  Only down 40 HP from the turbo model.

The ROA's website has some info on what makes these different that a base Riviera.

While this isn't on Craigslist, I found this listing the other day, supposedly of a 69 Riv in Virginia:

https://listing-basket.com/4303-1969-buick-riviera-time-capsule-fully-loaded-mint/details.html

When I inquired about this car, this is the response I received:

"My name is Debra Hobbs. You showed interest in buying the 1969 Buick Riviera Time Capsule Fully Loaded Mint that I have for sale. First a few words about the car, it's a 1969 Buick Riviera and although it's the 1969 model, it has only 104580 miles and it's in great condition. This beauty is extremely clean inside and has been well cared for. The car is being sold as described, no mechanical or electrical issues, everything is in great condition and has been recently serviced, never abused, non smoker, runs and drives perfect. You can buy it for the price of $6,667.00. I know the price is under market's value, we have tried to sell it at a higher price but we are in a bit of a rush since my husband got a new job and signed a contract for 5 years in Italy, Europe.
If you have any question or need any info please let me know."

"Mrs. Hobbs" responded directly to me via Gmail. I replied with several followup questions that have gone unanswered, especially my questions about this same car being on an Ebay auction, supposedly in Idaho, that ended May 16 with a $1000 reserved opening bid and NO bidders. I send the seller a question about where this car was, exactly. Again, I have received no answers to my questions.

This listing smells very bad. BEWARE....

I think I recognize the writing style, phrasing, and word choice. Vague niceties are often repeated but no details are given even when pressed. I was chasing down a car on Craigslist Orlando a couple of months ago. I said I wanted to see it while I was in Florida. Suddenly, its in Washington state and the owner is overseas and there's a long story. Be careful out there, my friends.

I agree re "suspicious" phrasing." my husband signed a contract for 5 years in Italy, Europe". Seriously?

LOL, I got a bridge for sale!

"George C. Parker (1860–1936) was an American con man. He made his living conducting illegal sales of property he did not own, often New York's public landmarks, to unwary immigrants. The Brooklyn Bridge was the subject of several of his transactions, predicated on the notion of the buyer controlling access to the bridge. Police removed several of his victims from the bridge as they tried to erect toll booths."

When I "resto-moded" this car back in 2007, I swapped out the old 85 mph speedometer that had 127K on it for a 140 mph speedometer that had 83K on it.  If this guy is claiming the car has 96K on it, he need to add 13K to the 127K that it had on it when I did the speedo swap.  I drove it to the ROA events in Galena in 2008 and Hershey in 2010.  The "restoration" is more like 10 years old.  All of this was fully document when I sold the car.

There is no such thing as a factory Type_R.  I used badges from an Acura.  R for Raner, and the rest that sort of goes along with the S_Type and T_type Buicks.

Here's what the speedometer looked like after I'd put a new facia on it.

Here it is on the cover of the Riview July/Aug 2010

This car just showed up again on BuySellSearch.com: http://buysellsearch.com/view/vehicles/cars/120227802/r%2Fsearch%2Fvehicles%2Fcars%3Ffilters%5Bmake%5D%5B%5D%3Dbuick%26filters%5Bmodel%5D%5B%5D%3Driviera%26sortby%3Drelevance%26year%3D1968-1969

BEWARE!!! This listing now has this car as being in the Greensboro, NC area. First it was on Ebay as being in Idaho, then on Listing-basket.com as being in Virginia. BEWARE!!!

The backstory on this car has been added to since I last saw it:

"The original owner passed away in 1987 and the car was left to his younger brother, who drove the car only 12,000 miles in 30 years. The younger brother stored the car in a heated garage since 1987 and only took the car to the occasional local car show. The interior of this car is in excellent condition."

It's a beautiful car in the photos but the price is too good to believe and the persons who answer your inquiries are a little too vague in their responses.

BEWARE!!!

I suspect there's a lot of money laundering going on, on ebay. I think that's the origins of a many suspicious auctions. I've seen things like gaskets actually sell for something like $200, when equivalents ones are $20. I imagine this happens on craigslist a lot too.

OK then can we at least see the engine?

https://spokane.craigslist.org/cto/6185048650.html

Interior is in good shape he says, but the one windshield picture probably tells what it was like after sitting some 30 years and before cleaning .

and Ed from Kansas still has this one for sale.

Not this Ed from Kansas.  ;)

The white Riv with the red interior is what you'd call a pretty base car.  No air, standard interior, but it does have power windows and tilt.  It would be nice to see the engine and the data plate. It has what would have to be considered for a base car "poverty caps."  For $14K you can probably find a better equipped one, especially if you live south of Duluth.

Ed (not the one with the car for sale)

PS - Gardner, KS is not considered part of the KC metro area but KC is the closest city that has a CL listing.
