John_S_in_Penna
On 6/2/2017 at 8:56 PM, NCRiviera said: While this isn't on Craigslist, I found this listing the other day, supposedly of a 69 Riv in Virginia: https://listing-basket.com/4303-1969-buick-riviera-time-capsule-fully-loaded-mint/details.html When I inquired about this car, this is the response I received: "My name is Debra Hobbs. You showed interest in buying the 1969 Buick Riviera Time Capsule Fully Loaded Mint that I have for sale. First a few words about the car, it's a 1969 Buick Riviera and although it's the 1969 model, it has only 104580 miles and it's in great condition. This beauty is extremely clean inside and has been well cared for. The car is being sold as described, no mechanical or electrical issues, everything is in great condition and has been recently serviced, never abused, non smoker, runs and drives perfect. You can buy it for the price of $6,667.00. I know the price is under market's value, we have tried to sell it at a higher price but we are in a bit of a rush since my husband got a new job and signed a contract for 5 years in Italy, Europe. If you have any question or need any info please let me know." "Mrs. Hobbs" responded directly to me via Gmail. I replied with several followup questions that have gone unanswered, especially my questions about this same car being on an Ebay auction, supposedly in Idaho, that ended May 16 with a $1000 reserved opening bid and NO bidders. I send the seller a question about where this car was, exactly. Again, I have received no answers to my questions. This listing smells very bad. BEWARE.... You're right, N. C. I'm almost certain it's a scam. I inquired last year about a '59 Buick for sale. The circumstance was just like this Riviera's: A price lower than usual; almost the exact same words in reply to describe the car. And it was supposedly a woman needing to sell. They want a sucker to want the car so much that he'll send money without going to see the car. Hurry up! Don't think much! Just buy it before it's gone! The seller has no such car. Undoubtedly, the scammer got pictures from some other site. No one got a good deal, but I hope the criminal gets jail time.

NC1968Riviera
1968 Riv in Chicago area. I called about this one prior to buying my Aqua Mist car. Mike, take a look, that '69 fuel line appears much like the new (incorrect) one you received. Whats with the Chevrolet Orange and overspray? Where's the "all original" smog pump? (Perhaps he added this dash pot when he yanked the pump?) Weren't the upholstery buttons originally diamond shaped? Shipping parts to a storage in New Jersey from anywhere in the US is pretty cheap. Cheaper than shipping them to Europe. Shipping a car from anywhere in the US to New Jersey is not cheap, especially in this case from Utah, again, about 3500km. Getting the car to NJ would cost me over $2000. Shipping overseas is $1200. The port in Croatia charges about $500 for discharging the car and doing the paperwork. I would pay at least $2000 of import charges, and another $1000 for some licence plates. So, I'm trying to save money by buying a car that's close to NJ, like I did with my '69. If I lived in the US, I would go buy the car myself and drive it off into the sunset. RivNut
My bigger concern with noting which parts are missing is not what it would cost to have them shipped but rather why are they not there in the first place and secondly, are the parts that are missing going to be easy to find? The biggest issue is not what's missing, it's what's in the car. I sure can't take a look at the car from half way around the world and decide if it's any good. I can only trust the man and have faith that what he said is working, works.

Priced optimistically IMO.....for the seller that is https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/cto/d/1964-buick-riviera/6244254826.html Came mighty close to buying this one in hopes that with some buffing, polishing and detailing it could be the original unmolested first gen for under 10 k I've been looking for. Based on the first 5 pictures that were all that were originally posted, I had Jason on standby to go check it out. I had spoken with the seller and negotiated the price down to $5,500 contingent upon additional detailed pictures being emailed. Never received the email but he did post them on the ad. After seeing the numerous spots of surface rust and hearing of even more serious ones from the seller not shown in the pictures coupled with the rust stains emanating from the battery shelf area and the general condition of the engine bay I called Jason and told him to save himself the 2 hour trip, that it was a bit more of a project than I am interested in. However, the seller did assure me that there is no rust through on the car whatsoever and the undercarriage is very nice, clean and rust free. So as Jason mentioned above this would make for a nice restoration project. If I didn't already have 3 '54's and now a '38 waiting in line for getting on the road, I probably would have tackled this one, but I'm not getting any younger and time is becoming more valuable. Thanks again Jason for offering to go check it out for me, I really appreciate the offer!
