One of 49 1985 convertibles with the turbo.

So, how did that first iteration of the turbo V6 actually run? No intercooler, no sequential fuel injection, last year for the distributor, too. Anyone know?

The Riviera's turbocharged V6 gained sequential fuel injection in 1984, so this car has that. Despite my admiration for the turbo Rivieras, I've never driven one, so I'll leave it to those who have to discuss drivability. Here's what I believe is the sixth-generation turbo chronology:

    1979-1980 LC8—Rochester Quadrajet M4ME four-barrel carburetor, 185 bhp

    1981-1983 LC8—Rochester Quadrajet E4ME four-barrel carburetor, 180 bhp

    1984-1985 LM9—sequential fuel injection, 200 bhp

—horsepower figures are not definitive and many sources do not agree.

DESCRIPTIONWest Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely exceptional unrestored example in its original 'Arctic White' (Code C) factory color paint with its original Black Landau Vinyl Roof and its original Black (trim code 688) vinyl interior of a completely rust free 1968 Buick Riviera 430/360HP V8 with original factory options including air conditioning, power steering, heater, power brakes, power windows, power antenna, power seats, tilt steering wheel, white sidewall tires, dual exhausts, AM 'Sonomatic' radio, electric clock, full carpeting and with it's original matching # 430ci/360HP 4 barrel engine and automatic transmission and with original Buick Rally wheels!

Super striking example in original 'Arctic White' factory color paint with it's original factory Black vinyl interior. Obviously always garaged with no signs of any accidents or rust whatsoever! The floor boards, trunk and all the typical rust-prone areas are completely solid and rust-free - obviously an always garaged and cherished car since new!

The car looks extremely impressive and is in quite exceptional and mostly completely original condition throughout! The dashboard, the headliner, the carpets and all the seats are in exceptional condition with only very minor signs of wear! All the chrome-work is also in exceptional condition and the original spare wheel and jack are located in their compartment in the trunk.

The original and matching # legendary 430/360HP was an entirely new and significant change and improvement with greater power and torque over the previous 425 'Nailhead' engine from 1964-67 and is extremely strong and powerful with 475 lb ft of torque stemming from the 3:42 posi rear end. This particular car drives absolutely magnificently - must be driven to be believed - drives straight as an arrow with no strange road wobbles, shakes or rattles - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any modern day sports car a run for it's money! The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears, there are no noticeable oil leaks and the temperature always remains cool! The odometer mileage reads 8,764 miles and the odometer is working although please note that unfortunately the mileage is undocumented.

Recent service history includes a recent overhaul of the fuel system, reconditioned A/C which has been converted to R134, new Rochester Quadrajet carb, new fuel pump, new water pump, belts, alternator, power steering pump, brakes, shocks, plugs & points.

It is rare that Detroit followed one design triumph with another but such was the case with the second generation (1966-70) Buick Riviera! Larger than the original 1963-65 series, it was nevertheless beautifully designed with flowing lines that managed to also incorporate the traditional 'razor edge' look exemplified by Hooper bodied Rolls Royce's and was shared by the Oldsmobile Toronado and used by Cadillac for the Eldorado the following year! A new 425 cid V8 was added under the hood to further enhance the cars reputation as a high end powerhouse. The dual headlights reverted to a horizontal arrangement and now retracted above the grille when not in use and the rear styling featured full width tail lamps. The body's clean lines were enhanced by the lack of vent windows and inside a new instrument panel was to be found. It incorporated a unique vertical drum type speedometer and a full compliment of gauges. A design that has since received the coveted certified 'Milestone Car' status recognition by the 'Milestone Car Society' of post war cars (1945-72) who judged their cars in five catagories; styling, engineering, roadability, performance and innovation and craftsmanship. A Milestone car had to be superior to its contemporaries in at least two of these catagories. Definitely one very rare and highly desirable and collectible original example of one of the outstanding GM designs of the sixties, which has high repute amongst collectors for both it's beautiful lines and smooth and high power performance for a luxury coupe. In 1968 the model had larger reshaped front and rear loop-type bumpers that encased both the grille and tail lamps and the larger 430/360HP V8 engine.

In summary, this particular example is one very fine example of this great daily driving and unrestored survivor and turn-key ready to enjoy today obviously always garaged and rust free increasingly desirable and collectible 1968 Buick Riviera 2 door Hardtop coupe! A sure-fire investment that's sure to appreciate over the years for any classic American sixties car collector or simply any Buick enthusiast!

1971 Buick Riviera

1971 Buick Riviera, 455, auto, loaded with some rare factory options.

This is an amazing boat tail 1971 Buick Riviera, the first year for the bodystyle and arguably the most desirable year. It is an unrestored car with a single repaint in the factory color. It has the complete original interior and is in very nice condition.

This car was ordered and owned locally by a gentleman that took great pride and care of the car for decades. Upon his passing, it was willed to a family member and a few years later, purchased by me.

The rare options include a factory rim-blow steering wheel, speed warning system, and Max-Trac which was an early version of traction control. The rim-blow steering wheel was not functioning so was replaced by the more traditional three spoke version so the horns work (also has the optional added horns). The rim-blow steering wheel is included.

The factory a/c is complete and intact but will need checked out and converted to 134. I've bypassed the low pressure switch to test the compressor and it engages and runs quietly. It should merely need the system evacuated and leak checked, then converted to 134.

It has new whitewall tires on the factory chrome wheels. I've also replaced the exhaust from the dual mufflers back. The car runs and drives very nice and always draws attention when out and about.

$25000 firm, and I'm not interested in any trades or offers. Thanks in advance.

1971 Buick Riviera. 455 engine completely rebuilt with only 2k miles on it. 400 turbo trans. 84,600 original miles on the car. This Riviera was featured in the movie Hangman with Al Pacino and Karl Urban. Driven by Al Pacino himself. New paint, new interior after movie rental. This is the cleanest boat-tail you will ever find. $32,500. No trades. Vehicle garage kept, covered. I also have the temp tags they used in the movie, a signed photo of the car by Al Pacino that can all go with it. Less

WOW!

That's a hell-of-a price.

It looks like there were tires on them at one time, with the valve stems in place, but they don't look TOO used that's for sure.

I know I don't need any more wheels, and/or wheel covers, but I am waiting for them to give me a price for shipping to NC. Guess we'll see if I get them or not.

Thanks for posting!

Agreed!  The price is great.  Some might consider it a steal.

There were just a four Rivieras at Mecum's Indy auction and all but one sold. All descriptions as claimed by Mecum and/or the seller.

1970 Glacier White Riviera GS coupe with a white vinyl top, a white interior (not pictured), and 31,000 miles ($14,000 hammer price):

The $41,000 that the 1973 GS Stage 1 went for is right on Hagerty's "all the money" for a #1/Concours car.

Any idea how the Stage 1 impacts the value vs. GS or base models?

I'm thinking 15 - 20% over the GS?

Featured in one of the Hemmings emails yesterday—1963 Granada Red (I guess) Riviera with a black interior of some sort (not pictured and undescribed), asking $18,000 negotiable:

4 16” Polished Aluminum Buick Riviera Wheels Rims - $89

https://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/pts/d/newton-upper-falls-4-16-polished/7158768376.html

I know you’re just reposting the add Mike, but I thought I would mention a couple of errors in their add.

The wheels for the last generation were not “Polished Aluminum” but actually a "basecoat/clearcoat painted" wheel.

Even though you don’t see these much, they were the original wheels for the ’95 to ’97 naturally aspirated Riviera. The more popular 12 spoke wheel, was installed when the supercharger was ordered, which was more common.

Sure, these will fit any of them, but I don’t think it was available after ’97 once the supercharger was standard equipment. They do look to be in pretty good condition.

Are there exact or approximate numbers for sales of the supercharger option in 1995, 1996, and 1997? Obviously, they were pretty high or Buick wouldn't have made it standard in 1998 and 1999.

I would have to believe there are numbers out there somewhere? Of course, they could have been disposed of, or lost over the years too?

I’m not sure where Tom B got his information a few years ago when he was putting together his report about the Silver Arrow? That might be the same way to determine the supercharger option? It would take some time to look through every VIN and see how it was built, just for ’95 that would be over 41K lines of info to search.
