My power antenna just up and died in the down position. I have power at the connector in the rear fender area. I found that there is a relay somewhere in the car but don't know where. I doubt that is the problem. I suspect the motor. Can the motor be replaced or will I have to replace the complete unit?

Difficult to answer your question. Do you have a factory shop manual? THIS IS NECESSARY FOR ANYONE TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THEIR CAR THEMSELVES. Do you have power to the motor? That is the first thing to check.

You wrote "I found that there is a relay somewhere in the car but don't know where. I doubt that is the problem."  The relay is located behind the radio itself, in the cluster of wires running to and from the radio.

(Foam taped to the main harness forward of center console below radio) QUOTED FROM THE TC SHOP MANUAL.

So, here you have the entire Antenna Circuit. You can see that you would have power even if the relay has failed to operate. From fuse #7, in and out of the relay to the single wire connector at the antenna.

I repair GM power antenna and your schematic is pretty much the same.

When the ignition key is turned off........power to the radio is dropped and the radio sends 12v to the relay which is dropped and causes the antenna to go DOWN.

When the ignition key (and radio) are on, 12V goes to the relay which is picked and that causes the antenna to go UP

So with the key OFF there will always be 12 v on the red wire going to the relay (unless the fuse is bad) ...the white wire coming out of the relay will also have 12v  (the DG wire (dark green?) will be grounded

When the radio is on (ignition on) the relay picks and DG will/should have 12v and GY (grey?) becomes ground.

I finally got around to looking into my antenna relay troubles. Previously I found the Standard RY-79  relay purported to be the relay for the TC on E-Bay. Once I located the relay in the car I found that the Standard RY-79 must fit something else. NAPA doesn't carry the correct part and no one else could find it either. I did find the right relay on E-Bay for under $3. Jeep dealers also carry it on line. Thanks for the help guys!

That is just swell, both my 1989 and 1990-91 parts lists have the part number 4421570 listed for the Amplifier/Antenna.

However, the other number is also on the packaging, IF you are able to see that. (36003031 but that is not a normal Chrysler part number).

Your list is apparently not a GENUINE Chrysler part number list from that era, because we did not use the ZERO ahead of a 7 digit part number.

In either case, the relay is listed for the antenna, whether it works with the door lock relay or the amplifier is irrelevant.

I copied and pasted the list from the part book

the ZERO in front of the # is an artifact of the way Chrysler listed part #s in the part book

36003031 is not a normal Chrysler part number ....true .....

I have other part numbers that start with 3600 and all are Jeep/Eagle

36003031 also fits these applications:

1993 NY/Imperial

1991-92 Monaco

1996-97 Cherokee

here's one for 9.00

looks like a 6 terminal relay pictured

After buying the wrong relay and finally finding the correct one for $3, I found that the relay isn't the problem. The antenna motor is bad. I was able to tug hard enough to pull the ariel up so I can listen to the radio. Has any one found a source for the correct antenna?

Hi Bud you dont still have that relay do you ? mine has just stopped working.

I was just going through my inventory from my 23 year business and found a brand new relay 4421570 Amplifier/Antenna, in stock.

OK, I'm wondering whether you are asking to buy or are you selling?

I still have the relay... Let me know in a PM if you are interested in buying it.
