Restore my buick electra 1969 :)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, some news from last weekend of the Buick.
While waiting for the distribution kit and various parts, I continue by the harness of the engine compartment (engine, headlights, ...)
Once spread on the ground, I noticed that just this harness, measure the curves of the cables, ..., was the length of the car ^^

To start, clean all exposed cables (except the battery cables I'm going to change)
in this picture, I will of course remove the cables of this case to clean the cables, the plastic case and sandblasted the metal parts)

My electrical harness already has a lot better compared to what it was before. Then I test the continuity to the multimeter of each wire and all my wires are good, no wires to cut :)
Next, I buy a wiring harness model

When I started to put my beam in the sheath, I realized that there was a wire to damage

So I cut it and strip

But I realized that the copper of the wire was in bad condition at this place (because it was stripped at this place and oxidized thereafter), so I replaced a small part of this cable to fall on good copper

here for the last weekend :)
I will have to do for the rest of the beam, to buy the same type of sheath but the diameter below for the rest (headlights part), change the battery cables, take care of this box has sandblasted, change several pods , especially those of the headlights, can be changed the relay of the headlights (but if it works, why change it), give a boost to my charge controller, and I think it will be good after :) .
here is ;)

Then, apply the silver paste (Zebracier) on the exhaust manifold heat shield and on the small exhaust manifold part.

zebracier is a leg / fat tube that is applied with a cloth.
This leg is normally designed for heat stoves, it is a resistant product, it is very old as a product and it works very well.
I know someone who did it on his engine and his rusty starts only after 12 years.
Just spread it with a cloth :)

Before putting up my new cable, I set up the new battery terminals on my cables and remade the little cables that were plugged in (on the red)

I bought a quick pod to unplug easily but I'm wrong, I took the one of + instead of -, so I will later buy the one -

Then I noticed that on my two pods (driver side and passenger), that there was a brown wire to cut, this wire is one of the two that is connected to the night light that there is at the bottom of the front wings

So I took out this pod, open and I resold a brown wire as it should be

Now that the wiring harness is almost finished, I went after the dismantling of the dumper, the igniter, the gas pump that I had assembled last month ^^, and the crankcase

Then I disassemble the dumper pulley to sand only the pulley and avoid damaging the dumper
