ken1007
In process of rebuilding master cylinder, found what looks like vent hole inside top of cap, but there is no indication of similar hole to vent to outside. Is it supposed to have a corresponding vent hole to outside? Also it was missing cap gasket, need one with 1/14 inside diameter. Ken, Deltaville, Va. Rusty_OToole
It is supposed to vent to the outside, careful cleaning with a wire brush may reveal a small hole that is plugged with dirt or rust.
Owen_Dyneto
Of course it has to be vented, the fluid level lowers and rises as the brakes are applied and released. Very often you will find the other end of the vent hole on one of the corners of the raised part of cap where you'd use a wrench. Copper washers can be found at Restoration Supply as well as other sources. Edited June 4, 2016 by Owen_Dyneto (see edit history)
