Dim dash screen

Recommended Posts

I have a 93 Allante half the dash is very dim and the other side is ok.

Anyone know someone that can repair it? Is it the same type of dash that's in the Reatta?

Thanks

I would check with the vendors in the "Reatta Resources" sticky on the top of this page.

An Allanté cluster is entirely different in design from those used in the Reatta. The digital Allanté cluster is a backlit LCD, the later analog IPC is a more conventional design.  Either should be repairable by one of the big service outfits that specialize in cluster repairs.

Might mention that those Allante displays can go black after a lot of bright sunlight exposure. Best to cover when not driving.

Padgett makes a good point. The nature of LCD displays os that the liquid crystals are captive within a set region and are polarized on or off to change a particular portion of the display. After many years of sunlight and heat exposure, the liquid crystals in suspension can escape their defined region and "bleed out" ruining the functionality of the display. There is no repair for this short of a new (or good used) display panel. Hopefully  your display just needs backlighting replaced, otherwise you'll be looking for a working used cluster.

This, incidentally, is why the VFD displays used in the Reatta are a superior display technology for automotive use. They do lose brightness over time but will not smudge or distort like LCD's will (see the 80's Corvette cluster for another common example of this).
