wagonsteve
judging batteries, tar top replica battery or late model battery with tar topper. I'm not crazy about the near $300 dollar battery that won't last 3 years. been thru 3 in ten years. is there major point deductions for using the latter? MCHinson
If a battery were to be determined to be incorrect, the value of the battery is 5 points. So, worse case scenario a battery could cost you 5 points.
Phillip Cole
"Know when to hold 'um and when to fold 'um..." Listen to Matt. I know several guys who have spent a lot more than $300 worth of money, time and effort to make a new battery look period correct.
Ben Bruce aka First Born
Does the battery have to be good? Chang it out on the show field? Ben

Judging in AACA is all visual, so there's a deduction for a battery that doesn't appear to be period correct. An Optima battery under the hood of an otherwise beautiful car will draw a deduction. Battery doesn't have to be old, it just has to be correct to the car. This is fairly generic on most cars, but very specific on some cars, such as early Thunderbirds which had a very distinct shaped battery.....
Restorer32
Wouldn't be the first time we changed a modern battery to a dead but correct one on the show field. We showed a '28 Autocar to which we fitted a modern starter after it broke my arm. Start it up, drive onto the show field, remove the starter and install the factory correct block off plate. Reverse the procedure after the show. You do what you have to do.

Bhigdog
Which brings up the question of the "Tar topper" battery cover. An observant person (judge) can tell if one is in use. Is there an "official" answer as to a deduction for using one with a modern battery stripped of logos hiding under it...............Bob
