old buicks
Working on restoring a 32 Ford 2 door sedan. Need to remove the steering wheel to fill the cracks and voids. How do I remove it from the column?
19tom40
You need to use a puller that fits around the steering column under the wheel. The Model A puller does this, but I am not sure if it will work for your 32. Another method is to loosen the nut a few turns and then push up on the wheel with your knees, and then give the nut a sharp blow with a hammer. There is also this clip on U-tube about using a harmonic balancer ppuller.
old buicks
I guess I should rephrase the question. What do I have to do to get the light switch rod loose from the lower unit?
19tom40
There is a C shaped retainer the hold the light switch spider on. You pull the retainer and the spider comes off allowing the rod to be pulled out. Be careful with the rod, they bend very easily and when bent will turn the lights on and off while driving. On a closed car, you may have to loosen the lock assembly from the dash to give you enough room to remove the rod. Here is an illustration of the Model A part, which is similar to the 32 part. http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_model_a/catalogsearch/result/?q=spider+retainer&x=0&y=
old buicks
19tom40, Thanks for the reply. I have the column out of the car and will start scraping the accumulated oil and dirt to find that retainer.
