Waldren
I replaced a 1942 Ford truck motor with original 1942 V-12. Unable to clear low gear. Grates (I know it is not synchronized) The garaged has welded on the adjustment arm and even ground on the transmission case to get it to go into gear.I have never had this problem with any of the LC's I have changed back to V-12. I installed new clutch plate, pressure plate and throw out bearing. Any ideas? Everything works fine O.D. runs great but I don't want to tear out low gear. 19tom40
I suspect that the clutch is not releasing properly. Add some freeplay to the pedal and see if that helps. If it doesn't, check the clutch operating cross shaft bushings for play.
Tom_Overfield
I just picked up a 41 zephyr that wouldn't shift into 1st, the floor hump was already removed and I discovered the emergency brake cable was directly below the shift lever and preventing the shift arm from moving down to engage 1st. just another possibility. abelincoln
I've had trouble with the shift fork clamp being in the wrong place on the steering column. Might try adjusting. Abe
