Does anyone know what this stud is for on the 1930 GM windshield riser mechanism. The screwdriver pointing at the stud is mine and it hits the glass stopping it from going in place so I ground it shorter. The other sample is from the same type of car and has no stud that post-125099-0-88049700-1457303585_thumb.has already been rebuilt with new gears.

I have two with the stud and one without.  Originally my car came with one with the stud.  It stops the window from rising too high.  Only up level with the top of the instrument dashboard, therefore you only get indirect cooling (down past the dashboard and onto your feet).  The one without the stud lets you wind the window up another inch (this allows air and bugs to flow directly into your face).
