Need some help please!

I have 52 Chevy with original Stovebolt engine. Prior to getting my hands on it, it was converted to 12v and has a 4 year old remanufactured Carter carburetor. My problem is that it runs but when I hit the gas it hesitates, basically sputtering to where I need to play with the gas pedal for it to turtle along. At times there is little gas leaking from the carb but its sometimes. It is automatic.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Do you drive it much?  Did it sit up awhile?  Could be a whole list of things from sticking float to dirty filter etc.  Just going to have to trace fuel system and maybe go through carb for thorough cleaning.   No easy guess here...

Make sure your plug gaps are 0.035" and the point gap is correct. These old Chev's don't like small plug gaps. I also read recently in a CCCA mag that if you are running these engines on blended fuel with ethanol, that you need to open up the main jet size or the engine will run lean.
