SBRMD
I don't think this is possible, but costs nothing to ask the assembled: I have a nice red sport steering wheel that would look great in my '65 Sportwagon, which has the typically cracked-up standard deluxe '65 steering wheel. Trouble is, the hub of the sport wheel, which is from a post-'67 car, is wider-diameter than the '65 steering column, and just wouldn't look great on there. Has anyone been able to put a different hub on these wheels, that will mate up size-wise to a pre-'67 column? Thanks in advance,Steve in Mpls.'65 Sportwagon. Barney Eaton
The first thing to clarify is the number of screw holes in the wheel where it mounts to the hub.GM used 6 mounting screws but I believe that Grant only used 5, I note this because there are often adaptors on Ebayand you may have some choices. I have a Dino that is 6 just like the GM but their hubs have plastic covers that are available in different diameters to match (or be close to your column diameter. Momo also made aftermarket wheels and hubs.GM used the sport wheel on several vehicles in the '60 & '70 so GM hubs could be different sizes (in diameter)
SBRMD
Thanks Barney, this is good; also got similar info on V8Buick; apparently there are two hub diameters for the wood wheel in '67-8, and they are both available on The Parts Place's site. Researching....
ol' yeller
Find someone, or a machine shop that has access to a metal lathe. Have the larger (but available) hub cut down to the smaller size. I have had this done at least 3 times and it looks like it was meant to be with a sport wheel. It shouldn't cost very much either.
