James,
In answer to your questions, the headliner material was not the same as the upholstery material. The three types of upholstery common for antique cars was Wool Broadcloths, Bedford Cord, and Mohair (which was 100% wool). Your Special 6 Sedan would have had a Mohair material used for the seats and the headliner was usually a matching color made out of a 100% cotton material, which could have been napped or unnapped. In regards to the top material, originally called an "Oil Cloth" top, it was similar to a canvass material that had a black coating. Some of the more expensive cars used real leather, but this would be incorrect on your car and it will be cheaper to put back on it the new vinyl material. Today, the most commonly used material is that similar to those used on restored Model A's, and is of a black vinyl material which has a "grain" to it. They have either "long" grain or short
"grain". All of these materials can be purchased at many restoration supply companies. Try going to a book store and buy a Hemmings Motor news Almanac of dealers and resoration supply companys. You can also go to the following web sites and learn more information about materials and supplies. But do your home work and shop around, find the best prices before you buy.
http://www.lebaronbonney.com/
http://www.hemmings.com/
Good Luck!!
