95 supercharged Riv hesitant/bucking

Recommended Posts

Hi Group, I'm Tracey from Va, just bought a perfect shape supercharged Riveria for a few bucks. I don't hear the whine of the supercharger and the car doesn't want to take any throttle above passing speed. It will cruise flawlessly all day long at 55 or so till I go to pass someone or mash the gas then it literally shutters and bucks. I have no problem getting it fixed as the car is absolutely flawless! It's in amazing condition. Any ideas? The engine compartment is spotless also. No leaks or anything obvious. Thank you -Tracey

Probably needs a set of plug wires.

I never heard a Buick supercharger whine. I've had two. They just come in at about 27 or 2800 RPM and start pulling.

If you have no "check engine" light or codes, I concur on basic tune-up. Ignition misfires may not show any codes and the 3800 is known to have troublesome ignition which is usually plug wires or coils. Misfires usually occur at low rpm and high load such as you describe.

I had a VERY similar issue with my 96' supercharged. The solution was coil packs, after I replaced it ran flawlessly even with 195k miles. The check engine OBD II code will read misfire.
