JZRIV
Was at Hershey on Friday and saw this 63 at the Dragone Classic tent. A George Barris creation. Thinking I've probably seen this before but don't remember it. It could be yours for around only $175k. Built in 1964 for a Frank Sinatra movie. Anyone else remember this car? http://www.dragoneauctions.com/#!1963-buick-villa-riviera--/t2q3g Also saw a really straight and beautiful 66 GS for sale in the corral. $24k White w/plum interior Edited October 12, 2015 by JZRIV (see edit history)
RivNut
I remember it as a 3 in 1 kit car from AMT. I found this link to a sold one. http://www.oldmodelkits.com/index.php?detail=12561 Here's some history on the car. http://www.neautomuseum.org/blog/unique-1963-barris-kustoms-buick-villa-riviera-on-the-block-at-dragone-fall-auction-october-17th/ It was featured in the movie "For Those Who Think Young" 1964 starring James Darrin, Pamela Tiffin, and Tina Louise (Ginger on Gilligan's Island.) http://www.imcdb.org/vehicle_402225-Buick-Villa-Riviera-4777-1963.html Edited October 12, 2015 by RivNut (see edit history)

RivNut
If anyone is interested, I know where a '64 is sitting in a junk yard in a desert. Good floors and trunk. The roof is caved in though. And it's missing a ton of parts (which are in my basement.) Ed

Pat Curran
A very good friend of mine bought this car on Saturday at the Draggone auction in CT. He already has the car in his garage and is assessing its needs. The car runs great though and he is very happy with his purchase.
JZRIV
Pat, Is your friend an ROA member? It'd be great of he could do a story on it for the Riview or perhaps even bring it to the meet next year.
RivNut
Pat, If he isn't a member, perhaps we could take up a collection for his membership. It would be great to see a car of this stature at one of our meets. Ed
Pat Curran
He is a member of the ROA and has a modified 64. He plans to write an article for the Riview once the dust settles. I will start planting the seeds to have him consider the next meet.
RivNut
Perhaps we'll have to create a new class. Something along the lines of "Having roots in Hollywood." That car would be quite something to see. That being said, I've seen other "movie" cars and lots of times they just look good for the camera. I guess it all depends on what Mr. Barris was told when he was commissioned to build the car. Ed
JZRIV
Thanks Pat! I wish I had more time in Hershey to look at the car but there was so much to see in one day that it was overwhelming. I always heard how massive the event was but until you are there in person its hard to imagine.
Pat Curran
My friend is now the third owner and a few tweaks have been done since Barris created it. It has been several colors over the years and had side pipes on it for a period of time. A ton of documentation came with the car which will help with the research. He mentioned that there is no weather stripping around the doors but they open and close fine. The horn bar is missing on the wood wheel but no surprise there. It has a ST 400 transmission, not a Dynaflow. He built the model kit when he was a kid never dreaming that he would ever own the real car.
Guest Dantana
What a great story. Owning a Barris car is really something special.
rocky5517
We should have a National meet in, say, North Jersey; that way he'd only be a few hours away.Sam from North Jersey
RivNut
Sad news for all of you (us) custom car guys. George Barris passed away last Thursday. Whether you're into customs or not, he was a master and the original. Here's his obit from the NY Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/11/06/business/george-barris-car-artist-dies-at-89.html?_r=
