Hershey, First Tme Visitor Seeks Free Advive

Greetings:

My bride and I are on an extended road trip and ended up in the Eastern US with time to attend the Hershey swap meet. We would be looking for 1939 Buick Special convertible parts. We could use a little help.

We looked at the AACA Hershey site but didn't get much of a sense for the organization of the booths. Are they randomly assigned or are Buicks in one area or prewar cars set off from others? Realize that nearby motels are taken, but where might we get a room within reasonable driving distance for two or three nights? Any other advice appreciated!

Hershey flea market is random, there are some area's that over the years vendors have managed to get some marques partially together but there are no specific Buick areas. Hopefully some of the Buick vendors going well pipe in here with their space numbers. Sometimes by looking over the programs you can also figure out some of the Buick vendors.

You should still be able to get a room in Carlisle PA, I often stay there and it's an easy 40 to 45 minute drive. In fact that's where I'm staying this year. And as a bonus prices are pretty decent.

I would caution Harrisburg, I have stayed there many times over the years, but sometimes you get caught in city traffic or if you don't know the city "BAD" areas, plus you are paying prices for the state capital city. Carlisle is cheaper and it is an easy interstate shot

The last several years, I have stayed at one of the hotels on Eisenhower Blvd. There is a mall and Capitol Diner. I always make reservations in February and go with the hotel with the best price. Very easy ride to Hershey - back roads and 322. Also, the Buick Club of America has a list of Buick vendors and their locations which is easier than looking through the Hershey guide. The BCA tent is located a couple rows back on the right side of the Giant Center. I don't remember their site number but it would be in the guide.

Keep in mind also, that sometime real treasures are found outside a marque specific vendor. Historically I have found some of my biggest treasures at non-Buick vendors PLUS I got them at better prices. Don't overlook places like eBay as well, many don't want to lug parts around anymore so list their stuff there.

Yup. Good walking shoes are a must. If It is warm enough I where light shorts also. Why drag all sorts of extra weight around with you? Save that strength for parts buying. ;) I'll be wandering around there myself several days just catching up with friends for the most part. Dandy Dave!
