Guest HunterStephens1 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Ok so im having a weird issue with the power locks on my 89 tc... the DRIVER SIDE switch only LOCKS the doors and the PASSENGER SIDE only UNLOCKS the doors.. any ideas?? there is no clicking sound like its trying to lock/unlock the doors... i just find that odd lol
Garnet & Gold Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Sounds to me like each switch is failing in opposite ways with the contacts. I would suggest using dielectric grease to clean the contacts. When you remove the bezel on each door be careful not to break off the tab that holds the bezel firmly in place. The tabs are on the back side (toward the rear of the car). It is unusual that the switches would fail in the manner that they did but as it sits you have both the lock and unlock features available.
TC KER Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 When I pushed the driver side power lock button it made a continual running sound but it didn't lock the door. I took the door panel off to see if it was something easy to fix. Turned out it was. The before and after pictures are inside the driver side door toward the top left side close by the lock that the key goes into. The bent metal rod came out of the hole because the plastic part that secured it broke. I provided a picture of the plastic part that broke along with a before picture and after picture of the repair I made. I wouldn't recommend anyone do it like I did but it did the job. I'm thinking the plastic part that broke might be a common thing to find since I could see many of them inside the door. If anyone knows the part number it might be helpful for anyone who runs into a similar problem with the power door locks.
