Guest
Where can I find a listing of GM engine serial numbers covering at least the mid-40's to late 50's? I have a 1951 Chevy PU with a GM engine which I was told was a 1953 Chevrolet engine. I have checked numerous books and antique Chevy parts catalogs and cannot find this particular engine. The serial number is LAQ44009. Any help would be appreciated. My E-mail is cliffm_us@yahoo.com.
Guest
Judging from my older Motor's Manuals and a
Nat'l Auto Theft Bur. manual, your engine is a 1953 Chevy. That was the last year that they recognized the engine number as a means of identification along with the body ID number. The LA determines the year and I believe the Q was the model designation
(although I can't verify that) of the vehicle in which it originated.
Charlie Collins
ccmc1448@yahoo.com
