Pete Phillips
Working on a 1937 Century McLaughlin-Buick from Canada. Paint code on data plate is 759. This does not match any of the numbers on my (USA) 1937 Buick paint chart--all of them start with a 5, not a 7. Can anyone help? The original color appears to be a dark turquoise blue but it has a older grayish-green repaint on it now.
sean1997
GM of Canada used it's own paint codes. For 1935-1955 the first digit of the paint code is the same as the last digit of the model year (leading zeros not used for 1940 and 1950) and the remainder of the code indicates the paint job combination. 759 = Steel Blue Unfortunately I don't have any mixing info for that year, perhaps you could try GM of Canada's Vintage Vehicles Services; http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html

The paint code is 611 so the 6 seems to correspond to 1936 but what color was 11? Thanks, Jeff
sean1997
I think, based on other years, that 611 is Oshawa Blue, but I don't have the code numbers for 1936. Here is what I have for 1936: Color (Duco Code)Oshawa Blue (246-8188)McLaughlin Blue (246-8187)Brewster Green (246-50504)Oshawa Maroon (246-8619)Berkley Green (246-50703)Kingswood Grey (246-50962)Beaver Tan (246-8282)Valli Blue (246-5617)Rivermist Grey (246-50311)Enfield Beige (246-6013)
Guest Jeff_Miller
Thanks for the info. I researched this before and I remember Oshawa Blue being a likely candidate so it is nice to see your guess being consistent with that.
Mike Wiedmer
Could someone help me decode my 1937 McLaughlin Buick data plate? My trim code is 225 and my paint code is 750. Thank you very much for your help. Mike
sean1997
Paint code 750 is solid Black, sorry I don't have trim code 225 in my list. You can try Vintage Vehicle Services: https://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html
Mike Wiedmer
Sean, thank you for your quick reply. Yes, the car exterior is black. However, the firewall and door posts are a dark blue, which appears to be original, which perplexes me. I don't want to speculate too much at this early stage of my investigations. I contacted Vintage Vehicle Services as you suggested. Thanks again, Mike
