Guest Posted August 8, 2002 Posted August 8, 2002 The Wilmette Historical Society will be staging its fourth annual AUTO HISTORICA. A true historic exhibition, it is not to be confused with more common car shows. The Historica has been recognized as one of the most prestigious and innovative auto events in the Chicagoland area in addition to being a fun family gathering.
Scheduled for Sunday September 15 from 12 noon to 4 PM, admission is free to the public. Auto Historica takes place on the grounds of the Wilmette Historical Museum at 609 Ridge Road, Wilmette, Illinois.
Each year from 25 to 35 outstanding vehicles are invited by the committee to exhibit on a one time only basis. Most car museums would be envious of the cars that have been displayed at previous events, which have ranged from an 1897 Benz to a 2001 Corbin Sparrow (electric three-wheeler). Expected for this year?s ?Trend Setters? theme are a rare Stout Scarab and the original 1951 Excalibur J, both having highlighted exhibits at the Henry Ford Museum in Michigan. The Museum of Science and Industry will be providing a car in addition to those presented from private collections. Filling out the program will be a ?living history? reenactment, a model car display and a ?one lap of Wilmette? parade. For further information, contact the Wilmette Historical Museum at (847) 853-7666.
