Hood Ornament Identification Help Needed!

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum and I've just started a small collection of hood ornaments - so I'm a bit of a noob :) I bought the below ornament from France and I'm having real trouble finding anything similar. I imagine it is a Stork or Crane and made in the 30's earliest. Other's have suggested its from Humber Super Snipe or possibly a Hispania-Suiza. The strangest thing about it is the fitment. It has a thread screw hole on the bottom of the feet and a 3 hole fitting in the head/beak area. It seems like it is mounted vertically or at inverted angle.

Any help would be grately appreciated!

The more I look at it, the more it looks like a boat bow ornament similar to the one on this Dodge boat.....yours even looks like it may have been up against a dock, rubbing the chrome off.

Wills Sainte Claire used a goose for an ornament, but to me this doesn't even look automotive.  Looks like it's designed to be installed in a position approaching vertical. If on a car, installed in such a way you would see the unfinished underside. Then there's the unusual angle of the beak.  Could it be an ornamental "topper" to something, (ornamental fence?) installed perhaps against a wall where the back would not be seen?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, I have begun thinking that this isn't for a car at all! It's so similar, in style, to the 30's era stork designs. It's definitely the correct angle for a boat figurehead, and has the holes to suit a rope or wire on the head/beak. Does anyone know of anyone boat related who could help me?
