stakeside
I am restoring my 29DB truck and prefer to use original bucket type headlites. I believe the plating is silver on the brass reflector.1) I was quoted $200 dollars each to silver plate. Is the reasonable2) How is the silver protected from oxidizing or is it required?3) Are insert reflectors that can be retro-fitted to the original bucket cover? JFranklin
Check out a company called UVIRA in Oregon. They do optical coatings. I think they want your reflectors nickel plated first and then they use a high reflective coating protected by a glass-like coating that does not tarnish
JACK M
I had a pair done several years ago and it was expensive.$200 each is probably the going rate.
stakeside
Jack M did they silver plate. If so do they tend to tarnish?
keiser31
Jack M did they silver plate. If so do they tend to tarnish?Uvira is not silver plate. They should not tarnish after their applied system. I have heard only good reviews about Uvira. JACK M
Jack M did they silver plate. If so do they tend to tarnish? I only kept the car another year or so but they still looked good.I had them done at SAR. (Steve's Auto Restoration) in Portland.
ArticiferTom
Check out that Uvira in the search of Tech. Some good stuff. It's fogged on aluminum but has to be put over nickel and then glass coated to preserve it .
zeke01
I gave one of my cars the Uvira treatment 10 years ago. Still look brand new. Zeke
stakeside
Thanks for all the input. I will go with the nickel plating with Uvira coat. I could not find a web site for them. Does some one have a web link.
zeke01
For some unknown reason I kept the receipt from Uvira. I had my reflectors done in 2000. The phone number on the ticket is (541)956-6880. Hope this helps. Zeke
