I volunteered at the Des Moines meet in 2013 and it was a blast. I like the Olds guys, all were friendly.

Having attended, volunteered and participated in the Cad and Olds national meets back-to-back I am able to make comparisons based on recent experience.  The Olds folks are just good, kind, open, warm, fun loving folk; the kind of people you want to be around!

The two clubs need to get together.  That is a fact.  Let bygones be bygones.  Multiple clubs within a marque are finding out that being stubborn and not realigning is costing overall solvency.    It won't get better dividing up a marque.

Which club are you a member of?

Isnt the model a ford club split in 2? MAFC and MARC? They work separately and have great events

Oldsmobiles are now an orphan car.  Fords and Chevys have several clubs. I would say - Ford probably has 15 different clubs. Even they would benefit from one large club as an umbrella.   The old car hobby is shrinking.  Many organizations flush with members 35 years ago are now less then 30% of those numbers.

Back then, it was no big deal to have a group think differently and start a new "club".   Then people held grudges.

Now most of those guys that decided to split are deceased or not in leadership.   Fundemental to being a leader is to do what is best for the organization. It is best to join into one stronger, more solvent and more diverse organization.

I would look for more division. In the VCCA,  the Chevy club was not able to overcome the modified people from changing rules. POCI is another one who does not follow it's mission statement. I stopped OCA after the nationals in Nevada a couple of years back when a 49 or 50 Olds 88 won best of show. That car had a big block Chevy in it....How insulting to the Oldsmobile brand.

What I can't understand is why do people want to get into a club that has restoration, preservation, historical values as the core and ruin it by adding modified cars when there are numerous clubs that cater to modified cars. Why can't they LEAVE US ALONE!

I don't mind the modifieds as long as they have their own classes, but a non-Olds drivetrain rankles me. I made my opinion known about that BBC-powered car taking Best of Show but was for the most part ignored.

I quit POCI when they started allowing restamped data plates with options and equipment added during restoration. That opened the door for a lot of bogus GTOs and made me realise I wanted no part of creating cars with questionable provenance. Shame too because I truly love 60s big Pontiacs, but if I ever own another one I will not be part of POCI.

Speaking of big Pontiac's Glenn, There has been some interest in the 56-67 big Pontiac's especially the 59-64 cars. One car in particular that was in Hemmings classic car magazine was a 61 Catalina. The car started life as a 389, 267hp, Roto HydraMatic, 2.69  open diff.

The car changed to a 348hp tri-power, 4 speed Super Hydramatic with 3.42 posi diff. I have no problem with that except this car was a POCI stock unmodified category winner ( the hell with PHS ). What is even more disturbing is it was a AACA first Senior winner as well!

Apparently the rules are you can put whatever was available from the factory on your car regardless of how it came from the factory. Lucky for the guy who built it that AACA or POCI never looked at the tranny or couldn't tell a Controlled Coupling 4 speed Hydramatic from a Roto Hydramatic.

I can understand the owner not wanting the Roto, even Pontiac division didn't want Roto but Roto was forced on it. If Pontiac had their way all 61-64 big Pontiac's would have had Super HydraMatic not just StarChief and Bonneville. But Stock is stock and rules are rules?

Paul, just wanted to let you know I saw this thread and renewed...FINALLY!  I understand all the discussion surrounding the Olds clubs as I was there when the split occurred and am a past national president of OCA.  From my vantage point most of the smaller clubs are having troubles in many ways.  OCA is a far cry from where it was in the early days.  I am sure the two clubs could co-exist as one and feel it is only a matter of time before that happens.  If there is enlightened leadership they can find ways to satisfy the modified factions from those of us who are preservationists.  Both NAOC and OCA allowed modified so the clubs are still serving many of the same constituencies.  Just my two cents.

The question I have and Glenn has had for YEARS is how do we get Olds guys more active on the net?  I remember talking to the wall apparently at the OCA meet I spoke at in Texas several years ago as nothing has changed.

Paul, you need to push me to attend a national meet again, the summer is busy but I miss being a part of the group.  This job does get in the way of my hobby.  I would love to bring the race car out as I think people would get a kick out of it and its history.  Also Carlisle is recognizing Hurst this year so I may drive my pace car over for at least a day.

Steve- you need to point something down I-81 this July. OCA and H/OCA 2016 Nationals are in Bristol/Kingsport TN area July 19-24.

Unless upcoming shoulder surgery thwarts it, I plan to be there. I may be on a Grand Markee or the old Gray Ghost wagon, but this is closest Nats has been to me since 2009 and I was able to get that week for vacation, so I will head west on something.

Seven Springs meet I drove the Ghost, since nothing else was remotely roadworthy for an 800 mile round trip (and still aren't), and everybody said why are you driving the Ghost with Starfires and a Toronado in the fleet? Simple- I knew the Ghost would get me there and get me home. I do lots of stupid things, but setting out on a long trip in a car that hasn't seen any road time in several years ain't one of 'em...

The most Olds activity I see takes place on the Classic Oldsmobile web site.  The site is not affiliated with  either national organization.
