FrankWest107
I am confused about rebuilding my gas gauge.Mac's auto sells a gas tank sender they say will work with the original fuel gauge??Can't see how it will work? The ford service bulletins from 1932 show the original gas sender unit...which is not what MAC's sells.Does anyone have experience on how to restore the original gas gauge . http://www.macsautoparts.com/store/gas-tank-sending-gauge-unit-with-float-and-rubber-gasket-6-or-12-volt-use-with-original-ford-dash-gauges-only-for-use-with-our-reproduction-tank.html http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mercury_early/gas-gauge-air-line-kit-replacement-style-for-hydrostatic-fuel-gauge-ford.html http://www.macsautoparts.com/ford_mercury_early/gas-gauge-air-line-siamese-copper-coated-steel-as-original-ford-v8-2.html
Beltfed
You have a King-Seely Hydrostatic type , yes? Are you trying to repair the gauge (as stated) or the sending unit (Mac's stuff)? Sorry, I'm a little confused.
FrankWest107
I don;t have the original sending unit, I want to know if MAC's new sending unit will work with my original fuel gauge.
Beltfed
Sorry, but I could not locate the proper hydrostatic sending unit in 'Mac's' catalog. The one I did find is for a more modern electric gauge as shown in your first link. Your orginial gauge is a manometer which uses a fluid called Acetylene Tetra-bromide dyed with 'Sudan Red'. It has a density of 2.85- 2.95. Be aware...it can be harardous if not handled correctly.
FrankWest107
You are right! The MAC's unit is for 36 and later not for the red dye type fuel gauge that I have.Thanks.... I guess if I want the original fuel gauge working I will have to do a lot more work.
