Guest Posted April 14, 2001 Posted April 14, 2001 Hello, I am a new member of the Classic Car club. I just received the book with all listed members and their cars. I was suprised to see how many 1941 series 62 Cadillacs were listed. It does not say how many are convertibles. I just want people to know that there is a gentleman(for lack of better terms) in the Racine/Kenosha area of Wisconsin that has chopped at least 6-7 coupes into convertibles. My boyfriend left me his 1941 HPOF 62 series convertible when he lost his battle with cancer last year. Over the years we purchased a few parts from this gentleman. I know it is not illegal to "chop" coupes into convertibles...however not telling the buyer is fraud. Where these cars are now...???? Who knows...... The frame and side doors are reinforced and heavier on factory original convertibles than the coupes. A chopped auto may look fantastic...but will twist and distort with use. ALWAYS but ALWAYS know what you are paying premium convertible price to own. Take it to someone in the "know"....check it out... do your homework.....check every inch of that auto... I do not know when the serial number started to reflect "convertible"... I do know that many manufactures didn't put paint color in the serial number till after the war. The serial number of mine is 8359119...no letters so probably no indication it is a convertible unless it is researched. Mine is McKindley gray with maroon interior. My boyfriend owned it since 1961. It has 54k original miles on it. IT IS a convertible.... I sopose if a person cannot afford a "real" convertible the chopped one is ok...but to pay big $$$ for a undisclosed chop job is fraud...illegal for sure. But it still comes down to "buyer beware"..... Wishing you all originals!!! drive 'um carefully!!!
