Beltfed
Installing generator and fan belt on the 38. How does one pull the generator up to get the belt tight? Is there a tool maybe? Thanks.
peecher
I use a large screw driver or medium size pry bar and pry up from the manifold under the generator. The nut holding the generator in place needs to be "almost" tight in order to keep the generator in it's "groove". May have to experiment a little. Beltfed
Thanks Mr. Peecher,I would have thought there was some other way as one is using the aluminum intake as a fulcrum point. But it worked.

19tom40
I use a scrap piece of oak to pry up the one on my Mercury. Remember to not stretch the belt too tight, it will damage the bushings in the water pumps and the front bearing in the generator. You should have 1" of movement half way between the water pump and the generator.
