Guest From Flint
My '50 Super 56C dynaflow had some seal & gasket work done in a local Idaho Falls, ID transmission shop about 10 yrs. ago. It slowed the transmission leak, but it has gradually gotten worse. I think it was the first dynaflow they had ever serviced. Now the dynaflow requires the Low range to climb over Teton Pass, WY which is about a 10% grade and it begins to screech near the top of the pass and slowly loses the screech after the downhill and several miles of flatland roads. The torque ball & seal were repaired 4 yrs. ago. I have driven it infrequently on local classic car trips and I have to add a quart of fluid within 100 miles. I plan to replace the vinyl top with Stayfast, vinyl rear window with tempered glass of OEM size, vinyl seat covers & side panels with leather to match the factory specs. But first I want to have the dynaflow overhauled or rebuilt by an experienced shop that has a reputation for excellent dynaflow repairs. I live in the Jackson Hole, WY area. Any recommendations? John348
There was a great article on early dynaflow rebuilds in the last issue of the Buick Bugle.
Guest From Flint
That is a great article! I'm looking forward to the second part next month. If I can't locate an experienced dynaflow shop within reasonable driving distance, I might approach the local shop that did the torque ball & seal work, with the shop manual and those two BCA dynaflow articles. The older mechanic who serviced the torque ball & seal had a heart attack two months after completing my work and died. Everyone else working there is much younger than my Buick. There's nothing better than a reliable mechanic who has lots of experience with the work that your car needs.
