Guest rozzi
Hello all, I am in the process of trying to save the original console material in my 1963 Riviera by re-gluing it. As I started removing the old glue, I noticed the faint outline of what looks like where a rectangular plate (like on a trophy) would go on the console. I was wondering if someone knew if the factory or possibly a dealer put a plate here? (i.e. "Made for.....") The interior of my 63 (Willow Mist with Sandalwood vinyl interior) is all original (with the exception of the kick panels I had replaced) and came from Wolf Buick in San Leandro, CA. Thanks. Do they silk screen everything on the plate except the owner's name, which is engraved? Previous reproductions of these plates had a very fuzzy edge to the printed text, lines, etc., and they did not look as sharp as the originals. I can't find my documentation, but I seem to remember the wording changed after '63.

The silk screen on these is beautiful......the name is silk screened as well, not engraved, and it looks very nice. You are correct about the change in wording...the 65's had a plate that said "custom built for" instead of "built expressly for".Don't know about the 64 plates. I didn't care about the wording when I ordered my plate......"built expressly for" suited me just fine.
coast
Attached is the original one my dad ordered for our 65 Riv. I was pretty young but I thought he ordered with a form he found in the car when he bought it in 1967? It does not look like the others I have seen? Guest rozzi
To bring this full circle...... I had plans to order a plate through The Trophy House when I got a PM from Bob, aka "The Angry Pilgrim". He informed me that he could make me a plate for my 63 and attached a photo showing a example of his version. I really liked the font he used for the name, so I went ahead and ordered one. It arrived yesterday and it was exactly what I wanted. I was very happy with it. Since I had such a smooth transaction with him, I figured I'd share it with the group. He mentioned that he is also manufacturing the center console material (vinyl and wood) for those who are interested. Attached are photos of the plate he did for me. Thanks again Bob! RivNut
I have the original plate from the original owner of my car. The font that's shown in the pictures is really close to the same font as is on the original plate for my car. I think you got the plate with the paper work when you bought the car new and sent the plate back to Buick to have them engrave it. Hence I think there's just one original font for engraving (unless you had it done locally.) When I find it in my mess of papers, I'll post a picture of it.
