Convertible Top Impregnation

Recommended Posts

My convertible top seems to be cotton and has never seen any care. The effect is that it attracts dirt and dust after cleaning like a magnet. Is there any recommendation what to use on these old fabrics that protects against dirt, oil (and water as a side effect)?

Thanky,

Chris

There are a couple things you could try.    I sell Covercraft car covers and have experimented on their fabrics but have never done this to an actual top.

(1) Scotch Guard... with the top clean and dry spray it on and it will protect the fabric from absorbing stains.    Have no Idea how long it last.

(2) Water repellant treatment like Thompsons Water seal.    This did not change the color of any of the fabrics I was using.    Don't know if it posseses the same stain guard as the 3M product but I would think if the treatment soaks into the thread,  it would help keep it from staining.    The Thompson type products require you using a spray gun..... I don't think I would paint it on, you might see streaks or lines.
