Glassesguy
Guys: Need to know how to tell the difference between a 1937 and 1938 Series 40 clutch pressure plate assembly. 38 Shop Manual says the release levers mounted in the assembly are longer than those used in 1937. 28-41 Parts book confirms 2 different numbers for the levers as well. Release bearing numbers are different as well so I assume that has something to do with the difference in the length of the levers. Anybody have the dimensions for the levers? Most other components appear to be the same for both years. Clutch disc listed as being the same for both years. Thanks for your help.
pont35cpe
The center hub of the disc may also be different. I think `38 transmission has a smaller diameter input shaft. Maybe someone will confirm.. Tom
jeff
the spline changed from '37 to '38, so the clutch discs are not interchangeable.
dibarlaw
My 37-41 has a 10" O.D. 1 1/4" Hub I.D.10 spline. No one would rebuild / reline it since it was an aftermarket replacement. I found a good substitute in a 1960s international Scout clutch. I believe Harry Logan sent me a 10" disk with an 1 1/8 " I.D. 10 spline if anyone is in need. Glassesguy
My error on the disk. They are not the same. 38 input shaft is smaller than 37. I removed the trans from a stuck 38 engine I have and measured its shaft vs my 37's. Measured the levers in the pressure plate assemblies. 38 levers are longer just as noted in the 38 shop manual. I have 2 rebuilt assemblies that were presented to me as uncertain if they were for 37 or 38. I'm certain now they are both 1937 series 40. A new disk that came with them is now identified as 1938 as it fit the 38 shaft but not the 37. Thanks for all your help and responses.
